Surat man attacks doctor after wife’s weight reduction therapy ‘fails’

An offence has been registered against a man, who is a school teacher by profession, for allegedly attacking a doctor with a sharp iron blade in Gujarat’s Surat.

Surat: City police are taking efforts to apprehend a school teacher who allegedly attacked and looted a 32-year-old doctor near Shreeji Society.

Police said the accused, identified as Manoj Dhudhagara, had paid Dr Ajay Moradiya in the last few months for his wife’s weight reduction therapy. However, she did not lose weight on expected lines. Upset with this, Dhudhagara demanded Moradiya to return his money. An argument flared up between the two when Moradiya refused to give the money back.

Man attacks, loots doctor

Dhudhagara, during the course of the argument, attacked the doctor with an iron blade. He then looted Rs 1,500 from the latter’s wallet and fled. An ambulance was called to the spot and Moradiya was shifted to a hospital for treatment as he sustained serious throat injuries in the incident, according to a report by The Times of India.

Later, police were informed and a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of law. A search is on to nab Dhudhagara, police said.

Another incident

In another incident, a 27-year-old female employee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was allegedly hit with a paver block and thrashed by three women when she asked one of them to put on a mask as a precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

According to the police, the victim, a contractual BMC employee, was on a drive along with her team in Motibai Wadi locality near Bhandup railway station to penalise those not wearing face masks.

She, during the drive, found a 28-year-old woman without a mask. ON being asked to put on a face cover, the woman allegedly began abusing the civic official. Later, two other women joined the alleged offender and thrashed the female BMC employee.

The three accused have been arrested, a police official said, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.
